The band changed its name to Spinning Wheel after the song 'Spinning Wheel' by Blood Sweat and Tears. During the early 70's the band enjoyed quite a bit succes coming second twice in the Evening News Search for a Star contests, playing the finals at the Odeon in Edinburgh. The band also won the Tennant’s Lager national talent contest where the final was staged in the Usher Hall Edinburgh.

The band played many clubs all over Scotland but had stints as resident bands in the Livingston Inn and the Dreadnought Hotel Bathgate - backing cabaret, dinner dances and weddings. The ultimate talent show at the time, in the 70's was New Faces (a fore runner to the X Factor). The band auditioned for the show in Govan Town Hall Glasgow in Febraury 1977 and were the only one of two acts selected to appear on the show. The band won New Faces in Manchester in May 1977. After turning professional in August 1977, the band changed its name to Jody.
